Many things are beautiful to me.
Today, it's carrots.
I love the feeling of pulling the root out of the soggy ground; mud squishing between my fingers as I tug the top of the plant. It a surprise each time because every carrot has its own unique shape. Some long and straight, others short with multiple carrots growing from one base.
All of them tasty when roasted with olive oil, garlic and rosemary.
This is my first official harvest of carrots
just for kicks, here's a partial view of the Superfund site:
...and the finished product! another beautiful thing to see.
everything but the chicken came from the back.
That is an impressive garden. Puts mine to shame; although, I am tripling mine next year.
ReplyDeletekim, that's only a small part of the backyard. i'm hoping to triple the size of my garden next year too.
ReplyDeletei want the entire back yard to be a food production zone.
but it's a lot of digging and and back breaking work and i hope i'm up to the challenge.
oh and i'm sure your garden is lovely. in fact, take a pic and put it on fb. i want to see what you've accomplished.

ReplyDeleteHark, Mel is still alive & well! 2 updates in 2 days!
ReplyDeleteYes, your garden puts ours to shame. We have a few tomato vines. Maybe to mammoth dandelions can be eaten as well.
I'm kind of wincing about the Superfund comment. I just had to advise people living in a cancer cluster area to filter their water & to NOT eat anything grown or raised in their immediate area.
I would love for the backyard to be all food, but there's the swingset, the playhouse, the ball, the tetherball post, etc.
ReplyDeleteI should take a pic of my garden. I'll try tomorrow.
Here are some pics I took early in the season.

mike,
ReplyDeletetomatoes and dandelions? you just need some lettuce and onions and you'll have yerself a salad!
and it's not really a superfund site. it's just very ugly because of the dog, chickens and super hot conditions.
p.s. i don't really look like those pics on the other thread. ;)
Holy smokes, you're a farmer! That's amazing and your harvest looks incredible. My lame little tomato plants in my lame little pot on my lame little condo patio are so LAME in comparison. You go girl.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fantastic garden, M. Very cool!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! But watch out for neighbors sneaking back there in the middle of the night looking for a clandestine harvest.
ReplyDeletecareful les, the banty chooks are pretty fierce.
ReplyDeleteI took some pics today as promised.

wow, it's grown so much just in the month since I've seen it!!!
ReplyDeleteyou're amazing.
have I told you that lately?
beautiful garden... and those veggies look delicious! We got some green peppers, tomatoes and a few green beans yesterday. A garden is a lot of work, that's fo' sho'.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a garden! That's awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteI was so impressed by your garden, Mel. Seriously, IMPRESSED. Jeremy can attest, I talked about it for a week. We just have a porch right now and I feel so frustrated not being able to grow very much. Homegrown veggies are definitely beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks great. Home grown meals are the best!
